What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Before your appointment
To see Dr Rattan you will need a referral from your GP or another specialist. If you do not have a referral, your GP can arrange one — ask them to include any recent test results, imaging, or specialist letters that are relevant to your symptoms.
Once your referral is received, our team will contact you to arrange a convenient appointment time. We see patients at our Campbelltown and Randwick rooms, and aim to offer timely appointments, particularly for patients with urgent symptoms.
At your first consultation
Your first appointment with Dr Rattan is a thorough, unhurried conversation. Expect it to take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
Dr Rattan will:
Take a full history of your symptoms — including how long you have had them, what makes them better or worse, and how they
are affecting your daily life
Review any test results, imaging, or letters you have brought
Ask about your medical history, family history, medications, and diet
Perform a relevant physical examination where appropriate
Explain her findings clearly, in language you can understand
Discuss the most likely diagnosis — or what further investigations are needed to reach one
Outline a management plan with you, not just for you
Investigations and procedures
If Dr Rattan recommends further investigation — such as a gastroscopy, colonoscopy, or blood tests — she will explain exactly what the procedure involves, why it is recommended, what to expect, and how to prepare. You will have the opportunity to ask questions at every step.
Procedures are performed at accredited day surgery and hospital facilities. You will receive written preparation instructions in advance.
After your procedure
Dr Rattan reviews all results personally. She will discuss findings with you directly — not leave you with a printed report to decipher alone. If a biopsy or pathology result requires a follow-up consultation, her team will contact you promptly.
